Here’s the thing about procrastination… It’s a very real thing. Externally it may show up as laziness or low energy. But it’s not an absence of energy as so many think. Procrastination is a very definite subconscious strategy for avoiding pain. But what it really boils down to is avoiding something that could be painful. Something that triggers the awful feelings from something that went wrong in the past.
Want to know something incredible yet totally true? Some of the most talented people I ever met…some of the greatest healers, therapists writers and teachers in this world, share a very interesting gift. The gift is their life experience. And believe it or not, at one time, they had no idea just how valuable and transformational their own story could be for others. It’s true if you’ve been through traumatic events—a difficult or even abusive story—then it’s easy to lose yourself in that place.
How do you spread a message of love and possibilities when some people are so destructive and argumentative? How do you get people to see the miracles around them and step into their genius zone when they’re determined to play small and negative? How do you MAKE THINGS WORK OUT when they seem hopeless? The best way is to harness that most powerful of metaphors. Your ability to fly.
The true lesson could so easily have been created our modern times world. Do you realise how much more you get done when you switch off the phone…unplug…un-facebook…free yourself to natural rhythms and flow? The tortoise, let’s be clear, did not win because he was SLOW. Please don’t take the message of this post as being “Go slow and you’ll win” No, the message is “Be who you are.
People ask me why I believe in Abundance. I believe it because it’s not about the feeling I experience in myself. It’s about the results I see in the world. It’s about how people are breaking free from the “common sense” thinking and solutions that keep them as trapped as the bird in the golden cage. (And many of our cages are FAR from golden anyway) With abundance, a spark becomes a flame.
For instance clarity - the silence then sound of a triangle right at the end of a grand orchestral piece. Like paradise - the sound of steel drums, chitter chatter on the beach and the ocean waves lapping up on the shore. The music “out there” can trigger the warmth you most need to feel in your heart “right here”. John Lennon’s music always did that for me (and for gazillions of others).
Many years ago in England I had this sales job. I was going through a bad time. I hated the work and it hated me. The people there were nice and it wasn’t a bad company at all. I just didn’t want to sell things I didn’t believe in heart and soul. I eventually walked away from the job like the radioactive waste it was. I politely apologised to my boss, expecting her to tell me I was making a mistake…”throwing away my career”…etc
