Laziness is in the eye of the beholder, just like a bicycle ride

Here’s the paradox. (And a way forward) Pushing yourself too hard can be bad. You can burn out or get sick. But then pushing yourself is the way to test your limits and extend your experiences. So for me it’s like a bicycle ride… Yes, sometimes you have to pedal uphill and you wonder if the pain is worth it. But other times you get to whizz down the hills and experience the ecstasy of freewheeling.

4 different ways to dream yourself an incredible life

There are 4 types of dreams. The dreams you can’t remember. Often these are the asleep kind. Sometimes they’re the daydream kind. Lots of people swear to me they don’t dream when they’re asleep. But they do. We all sleep dream. A lot. Just because you don’t remember doesn’t mean the dream isn’t happening. We all have an Alice part to us, and she’s busy day and night in Wonderland.

Does the universe really have your back?

When I was 10 or 11, I walked out in front of a bus and was hit by a car. Hard enough to give me a real clout on the head. Which was hard enough to give me concussion. Hence, I can’t exactly remember whether I was 10 or 11. But I know the universe had my back. She was my teacher. And the lesson was “Focus on what’s important.

You’re not ridiculous - You’re a hero

It only takes one act of kindness, compassion or contribution in the life of another to make a HUGE difference. Sometimes just a word or a well timed sentence and you become literally an angel. Nearly everyone underestimates the power of consistent, micro-contributions. Because they fall for the big trick. The protective wall of strength (drawbridge up) that people present to the world. As my friend and colleague Glenn Harold says, if most people knew just how much others have really been through, cruelty would vanish overnight.

The three special words

It’s ok to say the 3 words. Personally I say them every day. It make us human. There’s so much power and freedom in “I don’t know” It’s not weakness and it’s not ignorance. It’s just “I don’t know” Try it. As in… “I don’t know how I’ll overcome my current problems. (But I know I WILL)” “I don’t know when I’ll meet my true love. (But I know I WILL)”

I hate long cold winters, although in New Zealand we tend to get sunny blue skies which takes the edge off things significantly.

There are no limits

Maybe you remember the days of the digital watch? It was all very clever and each new innovation caused a sharp intake of breath and a unbelievable “Wow”! “Let me grab your wrist. I need to see that more closely” I certainly remember when my friend Mark Lane proudly showed me his new watch with sensational alarm beep capabilities. We stood there waiting…and waiting…and waiting… And then… Instead of your standard beep, the watch sang out a glorious pattern of beeps.

The thing that’s been hiding

So if you try not to think about chocolate, you actually seem to see it everywhere. When me and my daughter started talking about getting a golden retriever, suddenly there they were. Like millions of them had just invaded planet earth. A golden retriever patrolling every street. All good things can be this way. Love, money, kindness. If you’re not seeing the opportunities and treasure on every street, that simply means the belief has temporarily gone walkabout.
