Why do we keep doing this crazy stuff to ourselves?

In fact, it’s fine to sometimes feel 0%.

Crushed and deflated. Nothing for us to feel guilty about.

But we do anyway. Somehow we have to show the world our perfect, struggling, martyr-like self.

“Hey look at me dancing in the rain and smiling through it all. Even though I have toothache and credit card bills stacked as high as the Eiffel tower on my kitchen table.”

Actually crashing is fine. Tears can strengthen you. Looking back it’s always part of the story isn’t it?

As a kid I remember watching old footage of the Hindenburg airship disaster.

So dramatic and hard to watch. Yet hard to turn away from because it reminds us to be vigilant. It’s a metaphor for our worst moments. (When someone turns you down, we call it crashing and burning).

Someone designed that colossal airship. Some people built it. And watching it go up in flames must have been heartbreaking for the creators.

Their dream is in tatters. Unrivalled luxury including the silk wallpaper in the 5 star dining room. Everything burning and destroyed in less than a minute.

But something good always comes eventually.

The bigger picture shows us things turn out fine.

We got to the moon didn’t we? We’re going to Mars. Nowadays, air travel is safer than sleeping under a coconut tree.

With energy, the really smart thing is to be aware.

What % is your energy right now?

If it’s 100% or more then great. You can go chase big rainbows. Any dream you choose.

However, feeling less than fully on top of things is also fine.

The key is the internal conversation.

Are you intending to stay there? Are you out of charge? Or is this simply a case of refuelling?

Are you seeing a path forward and saying to yourself. “I feel crappy today but soon I’ll start to feel better. And the next day I’ll feel better again. And when I hit my full power, just try and stop me!”

Because it’s fine to sit in a low gear whilst you charge yourself back up. When you’re ready, you’re ready.

Perhaps the real key is declaring a truce with yourself and the world.

There is no battle. There is no grind. You don’t need to use the word “try”. It isn’t your friend.

Why do we do so many crazy things to ourselves?

You just need to take lots of small (or even better, big) actions until you discover the thing that works.

Purposefully taking a day off. Resting. Those are actions too.

Waiting for the tide to turn is natural.

And that could be the breakthrough you’ve been searching for.

You’ll realise that bundles of energy were there all the time. Waiting for you. Not the other way around.
