Good morning to your beautiful self from New Zealand (haven’t spotted any hobbits in my garden yet but Shhh, it’s early!)
By the way, I read some very interesting research on multi-tasking.
It turns out it doesn’t actually exist in a conscious sense.
In reality what we do when we believe we’re focusing on 2 things, is we flick our awareness between the two. So, each of the two things actually gets half our attention.
Just like in the famous quote:
“The person who chases two rabbits catches neither”
Whenever you experience an internal block and conflict, it really is worth searching out these two rabbits.
For instance, I know lots of people (including some of my own students) who want to lose weight, but they have rabbits bouncing around in different directions.
One rabbit wants to get that dress size down. It wants beauty and good feelings.
The other rabbit doesn’t want unwelcome attention. It wants to be left the hell alone.
Both rabbits (beauty rabbit and protection rabbit) want a feeling of control.
Both rabbits need caring for.
How to get them both focused on one irresistible thing?
Well for me, I tell them what I want by painting a beautiful big picture for them and telling them the story of what I want my life to be.
What about you? How do you achieve a state of positive focus? What ideas have you tried out and what results did you get?
