For instance, yesterday I was wandering around our National Museum, which is called “Te Papa”.
I noticed this on the wall, written in Maori…
“Titiro whakamuri Whakarite Ināianei, hei hāngai whakamua”
Translated as:
“Embrace the past Prepare now to shape the future”
But what if you could shape the past too?
In coaching we often help clients to make better sense of things that have happened in their past. In their childhood, teenage and younger years.
It’s not the same as counselling where often the pain and sadness is “explored” again and again.
By reframing past events or disappointments as “growth”, new opportunities to learn and change start to appear.
And just like in the movie “Back to the Future”, when you change things in the past, your future reality shifts and aligns too.
And the future feels bright, exciting and full of possibilities.
So maybe an even more powerful phrase for us to follow would be…
“Reshape your past And be ready to embrace the future that emerges”
Exciting stuff!
